Basement Excavation

Internal Structural Improvements and Alterations
The space beneath your existing house may be the ideal area, enabling you to create new rooms and much needed living space.

This type of conversion will typically require some or all of the following:
Big wide span open spaces are becoming more fashionable these days. Structural alterations and structural steel work is required if load bearing walls are to be removed to create open and light space. Often it is necessary to preload the beams and columns to avoid movement cracks at a later date. We use hydraulic flat jacks to transfer load from the temporary works onto the permanent structure. All this work is undertaken with the greatest care to ensure that no damage is caused to floors above and below.

All basement habitable rooms are required to be designed to BS 8102 Grade 3.

There are a number of different construction methods to achieve this which included Cavity drainage systems and waterproof renders.Abbeymead Building Ltd are able to undertake and install both types of systems and provide guarantees for the works as part of a complete basement package

Uderpinning and Additional Foundations
To support the walls of your property whilst a basement is formed the existing walls may require underpinning.Underpins are installed sequentially around the property to lower the depth of the foundation bearing level. These works quite often required Party wall notices to be served to neighbouring properties.Abbeymead Building Ltd can install the underpins and temporary works required and assist in serving party wall notices. This will enable the project to progress more quickly.
